Kids!Can! classes are rooted in the idea that school should be:

Personal

-Every person has their own path to personal discovery and advancement using deep self knowledge of strengths and weaknesses

-Our educational system should more closely reflect this reality to better ensure a compelling educational experience for all students

-The ability understand one’s self is directly linked to the ability to have empathy for others.

Accelerated

“Why is the sky blue and not red?”

“When will we live in space?”

“How does a seed grow into a tree?”

When students have access to the sum of all human written knowledge. What is the role of an educator?

We are currently educating the Earth’s first generation of “Digital Natives”, those youth who never knew a time before the internet.

Has the teaching pedagogy in our primary schools begun to reflect this fact?

We want to offer tools to students so that they can better explore their own innate interests while learning to work with others on challenges they care about.

If a child can learn basic multiplication at 6 years old(which of course they can), why do we wait 2 more years to teach it?

Contextual

-Why do we refer to the area outside of school as the “real world”? What message does this send our students?

-We believe that lessons should connect students with the world they live in now, and the one that will be there when compulsory education ends.

and Emotional…

As humans, our learning becomes deeper and more meaningful when we can associate novel information with a positive emotion.

Our first two courses, Coding 101 and Design 101 gives students an opportunity at accelerated growth opportunities while collaborating with peers.

You are only a kid once.

Science has shown us the remarkable mind is most adaptable when we are young. It is imperative that we educators take this seriously and begin to adapt our current elementary curriculum to one that is more Contextual, Accelerated,Personal Emotional.
